Protect personal data and privacy in Utah with Cassie
The Utah Consumer Privacy Act (UCPA) is an upcoming privacy law that will go into effect on December 31, 2023. Its primary objective is to protect individuals’ privacy as well as inform them of whether or not their personal data is being processed. The adoption of this privacy act sees Utah become the fourth U.S state to implement a data privacy/protection legislation, after the Colorado Privacy Act (CPA), California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (CDPA)
How does the UCPA differentiate from other privacy laws?
Despite having the same aim of safeguarding personal data as many other protection act, the UCPA does differentiate to legislations like GDPR. With this act, personal data can still be collected, used, and shared without an adult consumer’s consent. However, consumers must be provided with the option to opt-out from their consent being gathered, meaning that organizations must not collect, use, or distribute their data from that point onwards.
Will your business need UCPA compliance?
UCPA will apply to any organization that conducts business in Utah or targets their products and or services to Utah residents.
Your compliance journey should deliver more than compliance: it’s your opportunity to improve data integration, the growth of granular marketing data and application of customer data to marketing initiatives.
Cassie’s consent and management platform (CMP) allows your business to offer consumers the ability to opt-down rather than fully opt out. Not only does this give you the potential to store more contacts in your database, but it also gives more control to your customers as they can control how much data they share if any at all. The data privacy landscape is continuously evolving with more and more legislations being adopted to cover certain areas and use Cassie to stay compliant.
